A THRILL OF HOPE — WEEK 2
PEACE

Scriptures:
 Luke 2:8–14, John 14:27, Philippians 4:6–7

Peace is not the absence of chaos… Peace is the presence of Christ.

1. PEACE BREAKS IN WHERE WE LEAST EXPECT IT
God announces peace to shepherds, not kings.

Luke 2:8–9 “And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field… And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.”

Why shepherds?
They were the overlooked, the under-resourced, the unimportant. Nobody sends royal announcements to night-shift shepherds. But God does.

God brings peace to unlikely people in unlikely places because peace is NOT a reward — it is a GIFT.

2. PEACE IS A PERSON, NOT A FEELING
Anything we build on ourselves can be shaken. Peace comes from Jesus alone.

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you…”

Worldly peace says:
“When everything settles down, THEN I can breathe.”

Jesus peace says:
“You can breathe RIGHT now—because I am with you.”

Greek insight:
“Peace” is eirēnē — wholeness, restoration, putting broken pieces back together.

Peace is not somewhere you go. Peace is Someone who comes to you.

3. PEACE PROTECTS YOUR MIND AND HEART
Peace is not passive. Peace fights for you.

Philippians 4:6–7 “…and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Key Word:
“Guard” — phroureō — a military term meaning “to stand watch, to protect from invasion.”

Peace is not fragile. Peace is not weak. Peace is a warrior, standing watch over your life.
